Secret deals 1

Laenas

You, me and everyone on this board has a fiduciary responsibility to keep this corporation solvent. If someone threatens a lawsuit against it, as Sulla did, and then a "settlement" is agreed to under a veil of secrecy, the board is prevented from performing their legal obligation.

This cannot be ignored and you are treading on thin ice with your internal Lex Popillia. It provides no personal protection to board members. Now, you may want to take his word for it, but I doubt everyone on this board will. You have no right to unilaterally expose Nova Roma, Inc. to this risk. By doing so, it brings to light a possible conflict of interest if you are willing to put your best interests ahead of the corporation. If true, it would be grounds for removal of you and anyone else privy to these discussions that blocks or disregards the information that I am asking for.

This is not rocket science, Laenas. Emails were exchanged on behalf of the corporation. They are the property of the corporation and can and will be used in a court of law.

Worldwide participation of fewer than 100

Since all of the more than 50 "magistrates", "senators" and "priests" are required to pay this "tax"or lose their positions, the numbers show that very few indeed who are not in those groups (the power holders) bother to pay.

Update:

This was just announced.
Edictum censoris Iuli Sabini de capite censi anno MMDCCLXIV.
1. Due to the not payment of the annual tax, the following Nova Roma's Senators and magistrates:

  • Marcus Iulius Perusianus – Senator,
  • Emilia Curia Finnica – Senatrix,
  • Marcus Curiatius Complutensis – Senator,
  • Gaius Flavius Diocletianus – Senator,
  • Appia Domitia Taura – Quaestor,
are considered capite censi, suspended from their function, placed in the last century and urban tribes, without the right to attend or observe the Senate sessions, run for offices or be appointed as apparitores or provincial governors.
The suspension is valid until a censor suffectus is elected, when their final situation will be decided in concordance with the laws of Nova Roma.
2. Other categories of capite censi officials are subject of analysis and decisions of the Nova Roman institutions which elected, nominated or appointed them.

This means that with resignations and expulsions, 14 of roughly 33 "magistrates" positions are now vacant. Point #2 above, "Other categories of capite censi officials are subject of analysis and decisions of the Nova Roman institutions which elected, nominated or appointed them", means that more vacancies are likely to come.

Nova Roma "senator" investigated over death threat

Subject: CONFIDENTIAL -- Senate Business

Avete Patres et Conscripti,

First, I must impress upon you all the need to restrict discussion of what I shall report to you in this message within the Senate unless required to discuss it with macronational legal authorities under subpoena. Let's please for once take the idea of the Senate Seal seriously, and not let this matter spill over into any other place outside of the Senate. This means all of you, Tribunes and Curule Aedlies included.

I have just learned that a complaint has been filed with the FBI and a local Sheriff's office based on a threat stated in e-mail by a Senator of Nova Roma against a citizen of Nova Roma.

Back on 8 May, I received the e-mail you will find below from Senator Quintus Fabius Maximus. In it, he told me that he considered an act which would qualify as murder if carried out, since the citizen under discussion lives on the boat mentioned. I immediately brought the matter to the attention of my colleague, Gnaeus Salix Astur, and both Censors. We concluded that the citizen involved, Caius Minucius Scaevola, must be informed. Astur and I sent a joint e-mail message to Scaevola, providing him with the same text you will see below.

Pagan Purge of Nova Roma continues

Close observers of Nova Roma report that the purge of all active pagans continues. One of the latest victims is one M. Lucretius Agricola, "senator" and "augur". Charges included the following:
"...and in view of the statements made by Marcus Lucretius Agricola on the
"Cultus Deorum" List, and in view of the fact that he has ignored repeated
requests to resign his official position(s) in an entity formed specifically
to renounce our Respublica, we, the consuls of Nova Roma, hereby strip Marcus Lucretius Agricola of his citizenship in Nova Roma, his priesthoods and any titles honors or dignities he may hold in our Republic. "
However, subsequent discussion revealed that no such statements were made. In fact, the only "evidence" seems to be a Facebook page.

This editor contacted Lucretius, who answered our questions by saying,
"Quintilianus asked me to advise him on matters related to the Cultus Deorum. I agreed and he entered me in their senate. This is an honorary and advisory position, not an executive one. I would not refuse any such reasonable request by anyone to help advance the Cultus Deorum." (private communication)
It seems from this that a major crime in Nova Roma is for anyone to attempt to actually do anything to promote "...the restoration of classical Roman religion, culture and virtues", particularly the religion. This follows the expulsion earlier this year of Marcus Moravus Piscinus. The charges against him were similar, and similarly followed a period of activity in support of paganism. Moravus was responsible to ending the stalemate in the "college of augurs" and also for putting the management of finances in professional hands. Previously reported here was the fact of the very low number of active members remaining in this group. That number seems set to decline further as the pagan purge continues.
